This little poem is a classic which describes the children of Greece going by moonlight to the "secret schools" during the years of oppression by the Ottomans. Children went to night school secretly in order to learn Greek language and their Orthodox faith which was illegal in many places at the time of the Ottoman yoke. This is often the first poem or little song a child learning Greek will memorize.

My bright moon, shine that I may walk, so I can walk to school to learn letters, studies, and the things of God.
